The suit seeks to halt all resettlement of refugees in South Carolina “until a full accounting of any and all federal money used in this program and specifically where it was allocated and how allocated (and) in which counties.”

Hilton Head attorney Lauren Martel is representing Brian Bilbro.
Bilbro, a Richland County man, is suing Governor Haley, the South Carolina Department of Social Services and two nonprofits for allowing refugees to resettle in South Carolina.
The complaint alleges Governor Haley has neglected her duties to protect the public health and safety of South Carolinians by allowing refugees to resettle in the state.
“The allegations that are set forth in the verified complaint allege that irreparable harm and imminent danger is occurring if we don’t stop this program and it’s on a security level, it’s on a financial level,” Martel said.
Martel has filed a motion to stop the state’s refugee resettlement program.

The granddaughter of Dr. Norman B. Gibbs , a WW II Chaplain and veteran, Lauren’s family links to the US Military go back to Revolutionary War.
